Avid Technology has released its Active ContentManager v2.1, a digital asset management and distribution system based on technology it recently acquired from iKnowledge. The platform automates the process for collecting digital content from multiple sources and distributing it across many channels, including wireless devices, iTV and the Internet.
The Avid Active ContentManager will be available in two models: as an out-of-the-box system for broadcast news facilities and as a customizable software development kit for other digital content creation environments.
Avid touts the system as particularly useful to broadcasters who push large amounts of news to the Web and other outlets as soon as it becomes available. The Active ContentManager technology Java- based and both versions are compatible with existing Avid products. Avid expects to release the product by the end of March 2003.
