Evan Shapiro to Offer ‘Clarion Call’ for Media Industry at IBC2025
IBC conference speaker promises to share data and insights showing ‘how to not just survive in this new era, but thrive in the new media world order’

There are two ecosystems coexisting in entertainment: one for millennials and younger; another for Gen X and older, so says “media universe cartographer” Evan Shapiro.
Shapiro will be one of the speakers at this year’s IBC Conference (set for Sept. 12-15 at the RAI Amsterdam in Amsterdam), where he will discuss what he describes as the media industry’s “widening generation gap” and promises to offer a “clarion call” for the radical realignment of “big media.”
“Media is approaching the landing strip of ‘The New Normal’, where creators are the world’s biggest stars; content travels across both social and mainstream media; and where new models will make for very strange and unusual bedfellows; and all economics in media run on the rules of the ‘Creator Economy,’ ” Shapiro said.
“I will share data and insights that show everyone how to not just survive in this new era, but thrive in the new media world order.”
Other key highlights of this year’s conference include speakers and panelists from nontraditional media brands such as Snap, TikTok and YouTube, as well as global giants such as Netflix, Paramount Global and Walt Disney Studios. The event will also include speakers from ITV, Channel 4, Sky Deutschland, Warner Bros Discovery and ProSiebenSat.1.
“At a time when media’s traditional borders are dissolving, the IBC Conference is where the entire global industry gathers to make sense of it all,” said Sally Watts, head of content for IBC. “Our 2025 program reflects the urgency, experimentation, and imagination defining the sector—with a dynamic speaker line-up that spans social platforms, broadcasting giants, global streamers, major studios and infrastructure innovators.”
The IBC Conference will also include 10 sessions covering the IBC2025 Technical Papers Program, which tackles real-world challenges across the broadcast and digital media ecosystem. This year’s papers cover:
