EBU Names Vermaele Technical Director

The Administrative Council of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has approved the nomination of Lieven Vermaele as the new technical director of the union.

Vermaele will take up his position on 1 September 2007, succeeding Phil Laven, who is retiring after heading the department for the past decade.

Vermaele began his career at Flemish public-service broadcaster Vlaamse Radio- en Televisieomroep (VRT), where he helped plan the digital future of the broadcaster before leaving to join Alcatel-Lucent.
