Cox Taps SeaChange For VOD

(October 20, 2003) Maynard, MA--Cox Communications has selected SeaChange International as a provider of video-on-demand (VOD) technology. Cox plans to install SeaChange's VOD Systems and VODlink technology in select systems early next year.
Select Cox systems will utilize SeaChange's VODlink software, supporting Cox's "Entertainment on Demand" user interface on all current Motorola set-tops, including DCT 1000s, 1200s, 2000s, 2500s, and 5100s.

"Cox is excited about the opportunity to deploy SeaChange's VOD Systems and VODlink technology," said John Hildebrand, vice president of Multimedia Technology for Cox Communications. "For Cox, VODlink technology provides us with the ability to quickly deploy multiple types of on-demand content, including movies, subscription-on-demand services and more."

"Cox is poised to capture tremendous opportunities in its on-demand business," said Bill Styslinger, president and CEO, SeaChange. "Cox has a vast base of Motorola homes and, now, significant opportunity to propel VOD services into additional markets. Our VODlink software supports Cox's VOD strategy by seamlessly preserving its successful 'Entertainment on Demand' look and feel for the Motorola digital environment. SeaChange is working to help provide a compelling experience for viewers as television becomes increasingly personalized."

"Entertainment on Demand" from Cox, Cox's brand for video-on-demand, is a form of iTV (interactive television) that gives customers access to more than 250 hours of movies and allows the customer to control the content using full VCR-like functionality.
