Christopher Nolan Joins New SMPTE Advisory Council

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.—British film director Christopher Nolan has joined a new creative and technology advisory council for the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE).

He will serve alongside Oscar-winning VFX supervisor Robert Legato, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, Google Research’s Paul Debevec, Geoff Burdick of James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment, Ian Bidgood of Peter Jackson’s Park Road Post, Ang Lee’s technology advisor Ben Gervais and Emblematic Group CEO Nonny De La Peña.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the council will offer input on Hollywood’s need for new creative tools, standards and services.

The announcement was made on the first day of this year’s SMPTE conference which is taking place virtually. The conference is focusing on esports, VR, IP, 8K, AI and the future of film and television production.
