Harmonic Inc. — Tom Lattie, Director of Broadcast and New Media

Q. What kind of products or services does your company offer for broadcasters?
Harmonic offers a range of versatile and high-performance video solutions for broadcasters, including IP-based HD/SD video compression and transcoding, stream processing, statistical multiplexing, asset preparation and network management software solutions.

Harmonic's high performance DiviCom encoders and DiviTrack statistical multiplexing solutions are deployed by leading broadcasters around the world, including for innovative services such as the world's first live ATSC service with two HD channels and one SD channel in the allocated 19.4 Mbps spectrum.

Q. What's new that you will exhibit at the NAB Show and what should broadcasters look for there?
At this year's NAB Show we will debut a variety of new products and solutions, including some ground-breaking advances in video compression, technology demonstrations of next generation 3D and SVC encoding technology, enhanced video delivery solutions for ATSC networks and converged video delivery for mobile and Internet applications.

We will debut new ATSC solutions at the show, including integrated, cost-effective headends for smaller stations, advancements in SD and HD MPEG-2 compression and video compression solutions for ATSC M/H.

We're making it possible to deliver converged video to multiple screens and will be demonstrating real-time and offline content preparation and multiscreen transcoding solutions for mobile, PC streaming and over-the-top architectures.

We're also going to highlight the latest generation of video compression technology, which includes new high-performance MPEG-4 AVC and MPEG-2 encoding, SVC encoding for 1080p HD, 3D compression, and technical and format enhancements to the Rhozet Carbon Coder universal transcoding solution.

Q. How is your new product offering different from what's available on the market?
We'll be featuring some ground-breaking compression advances, but people will have to come visit us at the show to learn more…

Q. How has your company been affected by the current economic situation and what are you doing to get through it?
The competitive forces amongst operators still exist, but clearly, things are slowing down in terms of investment timing and budgets. Harmonic enjoyed record-breaking revenues in 2008, and is focused on continuing to grow by enhancing our solutions for existing and new markets such as mobile video delivery and contribution/distribution with the Scopus acquisition, as well as in emerging geographical markets.

Q. Where are you based, and how many employees do you have? Anything else we should know about your company?
Harmonic (NASDAQ:HLIT) is headquartered in Sunnyvale, Calif., with sales and R&D offices in China, France, Hong Kong, Israel, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States. The company currently has approximately 700 employees worldwide.

In December 2008, Harmonic announced it was planning to acquire Scopus Video Networks (NASDAQ:SCOP). Scopus' complementary product portfolio expands Harmonic's presence in the broadcast, contribution and distribution markets. The acquisition is expected to close in mid-March 2009.
