NCTA Appoints New President

The National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA) has selected Kyle E. McSlarrow as its new president and CEO, succeeding Robert Sachs.

McSlarrow is leaving his post as the deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy. He was elevated to deputy secretary in November 2002, after serving as chief of staff since January 2001.

As deputy secretary, McSlarrow's responsibilities included policy and program management in the areas of nuclear weapons, non-proliferation programs, environmental cleanup and research and development in physics.

He also had his hand in the dot com sector as vice president of political and government affairs for Grassroots.com, where he marketed Web-based political tools and services.

McSlarrow holds degrees from Cornell University and the University of Virginia School of Law.
