FCC Chairman Appoints Staff

FCC Chairman Kevin Martin this week named Matthew Berry general counsel and Ajit Pai as deputy general counsel.

Berry was most recently deputy general counsel. Before joining the FCC, he was a counselor to the assistant attorney general in the Department of Justice Office of Legal Policy, where he was lauded for his work on counterterrorism policy. He was also previously a law clerk for Supreme Court Associate Justice Clarence Thomas and Judge Laurence Silberman of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. He graduated from Dartmouth College and received his J.D. from Yale Law School.

Ajit Pai was most recently associate general counsel after serving as chief counsel of the Senate Judiciary subcommittee on the constitution. He was a senior counsel at the Department of Justice as well as an associate general counsel at Verizon. Pai clerked for Judge Martin L.C. Feldman of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. He graduated from Harvard College and from the University of Chicago Law School.
