Curtiss-Wright partners with Opticomm

Optical switching solution maker Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing has partnered with Opticomm to enable the integration of its technology with Opticomm optical transport systems for use in professional video and broadcast applications.

Curtiss-Wright Controls has developed similar switching system solutions that have been sold in the Fiber Channel Interoperability and Mil/Aero test markets for years. This technology forms the basis of the Optilinx OLX-1000 and OLX-3000 series of optical switches that are now available to the broadcast and professional video markets as a result of this partnership.

Opticomm’s Optiva communication platform enables the optical conversion of various video, audio and data protocols at broadcast quality standards. Optiva uses electronic time division multiplexing techniques on a multiprotocol level to ensure the maximization of bandwidth available for transmission per optical wavelength, at unprecedented levels.

The optical switching technology offered by Curtiss-Wright enables the switching, routing and multicasting of any wavelengths (standard 850, 1310 and 1550, as well as CWDM and DWDM) with complete optical transparency.

The combination of Opticomm’s multiplexing techniques and Curtis-Wright’s optical switching technologies ensures an effective communication and control platform for virtually any video, audio or data application, while optimizing system bandwidth allocation and minimizing optical fiber count.
