Envivio convergence, mobile encoders support U.S. ATSC

Envivio’s 4Caster C4 convergence encoder and 4Caster M2 mobile encoder will support the proposed ATSC Mobile DTV candidate standard.

The 4Caster C4 multiservice — mobile TV, Internet TV and IPTV — encoder supports one channel of HD or multiple channels of SD encoding for IPTV, Internet TV encoding up to VGA resolution, and 3G mobile TV encoding. For IPTV applications, C4 can be delivered in either premium or extreme compression encoding configurations using Envivio's new encoding core. For Internet TV applications, C4 can deliver content for playback in Windows Media Player, QuickTime and VLC. For mobile TV applications, C4 can deliver 3GPP- and 3GPP2-compliant streams for playback on a wide variety of mobile devices.

The 4Caster M2 encoder can deliver mobile video to 2.5G, 3G and 3.5G networks, mobile broadcast networks such as DVB-H and wireless IP networks such as WiFi and WiMAX. The system can output and manage up to eight subscriber profiles simultaneously from a single input. It is also compatible with popular network standards, including 3GPP, 3GPP2, DVB-H and the new ATSC M/H standard.

Envivio encoders were used for technology demonstrations during the development of the ATSC mobile standard.
