AJA Video Systems Inc. has made available its HD10MD 10-bit digital HD downconverter.
The compact (5.8 x 3.1 x 1 inch) unit converts HD-SDI video to standard-definition SDI and analog component/composite video, while simultaneously outputting a 10-bit analog signal. It uses a 10-bit data path and multipoint interpolation. In addition, the HD10MD converts either 1080p24 or 1080p24sf to 59.94-Hz output video using the standard 3:2 pulldown technique. The output can be formatted for 4:3 or 16:9 standard-definition monitors. Letterbox and crop modes are provided for 4:3 monitors.
The unit is programmable for future upgrades. Additionally, its four outputs make it possible for post houses with older, existing equipment to connect with multiple pieces of equipment instead of purchasing a newer VTR or monitor.
