WLS-Channel 7 Upgrades with Pixel Power

Chicago station WLS recently got a new on-air look with Clarity 500, a multi-channel SD graphics system from Pixel Power, based in Cambridge, U.K.

As part of update for the ABC-owned station, WLS now has new openings for its newscasts, new graphics and a new animated take on its logo.

Clarity 500 combines text, stills, video clips, sound and live video in each channel. The system provides two independent SD channels. In addition, the Clarity 500 channel provides dual real-time live video squeezeback. The video clips option for the system provides two channels of uncompressed video and key from an internal video disk array.

At WLS, the systems are integrated into the station's Avid iNews newsroom automation system using the Pixel Power Control Centre Service and ActiveX plug-in for Avid iNews. With this combination of equipment, newsroom staff can search for graphics, request images and fill out templates, all with full resolution at their desks.
