Russian 24-Hour News Service Taps Omneon for Servers

Russia's launched its first 24-hour English language news channel, "Russia Today," recently, using Omneon Spectrum servers for ingest and playout operations.

"Russia Today" provides Russian reporting and viewpoints on international and domestic events. The service devotes a majority of its airtime to news coverage, but also features sports coverage and documentaries about Russia's history and present-day life.

The news service is using the DaletPlus News Suite to control an Omneon Spectrum Media server, while a second Spectrum server is operating with Harris automation to record live studio feeds and other applications.

"We chose the Omneon Spectrum systems for our new tapeless infrastructure due to its open architecture, modularity, and reliable operation and control convenience," Sergey V. Frolov, Russia Today general manager. "As scalable and reliable solutions optimized for continuous operation, Spectrum server systems have the ability to meet our needs today and in the future, as our needs change."

Okno-TV, a Moscow-based systems integration company specializing in constructing large television facilities was chosen for design and build-out of the new facility in Moscow.
