Ritz-Carlton Going HD with LodgeNet

HD's penetration into lodging venues seems to be accelerating this year with LodgeNet Entertainment's announcement this week that it has entered into an agreement with Ritz-Carlton, a subsidiary of Marriott International. LodgeNet is extending its exclusive agreement to serve all Ritz-Carlton properties within the United States and Canada through 2011.

The agreement will be applicable to about 11,000 guest rooms and entails LodgeNet's sigNETure HD platform which integrates Pro:Idiom content security technology. Pro:Idiom enables delivery of HD broadcast and satellite programming, along with HD VOD. LodgeNet has penned similar deals with Marriott and other hotel chains (see upcoming Aug. 3 edition of TV Technology for feature article).

LodgeNet currently provides service to more than one million hotel rooms at about 6,000 hotel properties worldwide, the company reports. It estimates that during 2004, more than a quarter of a billion travelers had access to its interactive in-room systems.
