Micronas Opens R&D Center in China

DTV receiver IC designer and manufacturer Micronas has opened a research and development center in Shanghai, China. Micronas Semiconductor R&D (Shanghai) will focus on locally optimized DTV integrated circuits for use in TVs, set-top boxes, PCs and new applications such as mobile TV in cars, trains or taxis. Wayne Li, general manager of Micronas Shanghai, said the company will closely cooperate with leading Chinese universities to build long-term relationships with local suppliers.

Dr. Peter Weigand, Chairman of Micronas Shanghai said establishing the R&D center in Shanghai is a milestone in the company's strategic concept of staying close to customers and markets. "China is a boom region with an unequaled rate of economic growth, offering high economic potential and excellent market opportunities and Shanghai is one of the core regions to fuel these dynamics," he said.
