Harris Corp. Receives AFN Contract

Harris Corp. has been awarded a contract to supply the American Forces Network (AFN) with equipment to create a large-scale broadcast system. San Rafael, Calif.-based broadcast system integrator and equipment reseller, Snader and Associates made the award to Harris.

The equipment package will be installed at the Defense Media Center in Riverside, Calif. It includes routing gear, automation, asset management tools, as well as video servers. Several members of the Harris Nexio family are included. Sander is handling the design work for the project.

The Department of Defense’s AFN broadcast service reaches nearly 1 million American service personnel, as well as DOD civilians and their families in located overseas in 177 countries, and on 140 U.S. Navy vessels. The service transmits its own programming as well as programming from all major U.S. networks.
