France’s BFM TV on-air with Dalet

BFM TV, a division of the Next Radio TV Group in France, has selected a DaletPlus News Suite system from Dalet Digital Media Systems for its new 24-hour television news channel. The new installation manages the entire BFM TV news production and playout process.

BFM TV has developed a tapeless workflow, integrated through Dalet’s asset management technology to enable more than 70 journalists to write stories, edit video, and record voice-overs right from their desktops.

The DaletPlus News Suite installation integrates Omneon video servers, Vizrt graphics, BDL teleprompters, and NetApp storage into a single news production infrastructure, using a user-interface to control, manage, and interact with multichannel ingest, newsroom computer system, desktop editing, asset management and on-air playout function. Program segments are assigned configurable templates that structure the playout instructions for commercial breaks, weather reports, teases, opens and closes. Cognacq-Jay Image, a broadcast systems integrator based in Paris, helped install the system.

BFM TV is now delivering 13 news programs, both live and pre-produced, 24-hours a day nationwide via digital terrestrial television, as well as cable, satellite and DSL. Dalet’s flexible technology also provides BFM TV with multilocation production capabilities. Whether in the office or out in the field, BFM TV journalists use standard desktop systems and laptops to write scripts, assemble footage, add voiceovers and schedule program packages directly to the rundown for approval and playout.
