Discovery Communications Inc. has promoted John Honeycutt to executive vice president of media technology and operations. His new responsibilities include media technology planning and identifying future trends, as well as developing strategies for the company's participation in guiding the creation of global standards.

"As today's rapidly changing media environment creates new challenges and opportunities, John's continued leadership and vision will be a huge asset for Discovery's technology planning for years to come," said Diane Dugan, executive vice president of technology and media services at Discovery.

Honeycutt will continue to lead the company's move to digitize its operations, and oversee the Discovery Television and Technology Center in Sterling, Va.

Prior to joining Discovery in 2003 as senior vice president of the television operations group, Honeycutt was senior vice president of broadcast operations for Fox Cable Networks in Los Angeles.
