Colorado Studios builds new all-digital mobile production trucks with Grass Valley gear

Denver-based Colorado Studios has incorporated a full complement of Thomson Grass Valley broadcast equipment aboard two new 53-foot, HD mobile trucks it has been working on during the past year.

One, 7HDX, is already on the road for Western Mobile TV and is used to televise Major League Baseball’s Arizona Diamondbacks, among other clients. A second rig, 8HDX, is currently under construction.

Under an agreement announced by Grass Valley, Colorado Studios will outfit the two HD units with 20 LDK 6000 mk II HD cameras, two Grass Valley HD video production switchers—one Grass Valley XtenDD HD switcher and one Grass Valley Kalypso HD Video Production Center—several Concerto Series multi-format video routers using Grass Valley Jupiter control software, and a complement of Grass Valley Gecko modular components.

Two of the LDK 6000 mk II cameras will be used for existing trucks dedicated to servicing the all-HD network, HDNet.

The new trucks offer standard-definition (SD) and HD production capabilities to a roster of high-profile sports production clients.

The 7HDX and 8HDX trucks, the largest built by Colorado Studios to date, are unique in their ability to produce simultaneous SD/HD programming or dual HD feeds.
