Siemens AG demo-ed its line of Internet Protocol TV in HD quality at the CeBit confab last week in Germany, using a menu selection in the electronic program guide (EPG) that allows viewers to choose between watching motion pictures in SD or HD formats.
Besides a broadband connection, the IPTV scheme requires an HD-capable monitor and HD set-top box -- with several models of STBs now being made by various manufacturers including Samsung, said Siemens.
The Munich-based company is marketing its IPTV product as "Surpass Home Entertainment," which Siemens said will allow network carriers to offer subscribers the triple play of consumer telecommunications from a single broadband connection: television, broadband Internet and telephony.
