Cablevision puts digital TV on fast track
Cablevision Systems, the nation's seventh cable provider, says it has accelerated the deployment of its digital television service in the New York City area. Though the cable operator has been aggressive in introducing high-speed modem service to its customers, it has been slow to roll out digital programming services.
Of the 4.3 million homes Cablevision can serve, only about 1.5 million had access to digital television before October. The operator said last week that it extended digital capability to 750,000 additional homes last month and plans to offer the service to close to one million more homes in November.
Cablevision also said that the Quadrangle Group, a New York City private investment firm had agreed to invest $75 million in the company. The investment was made in exchange for preferred stock.
