BBC completes sale of mobile truck division
By TVTechnology published
The BBC is officially out of the mobile truck business. Last week, the BBC completed the sale of the Outside Broadcasts division of its wholly owned commercial subsidiary, BBC Resources, to Satellite Information Services (SIS).
SIS CEO David Holdgate called the purchase “a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
The business operations and staff of BBC Outside Broadcasts transferred to SIS April 1, 2008. Under SIS ownership, Outside Broadcasts will continue to provide services to the BBC as well as other clients.
BBC Outside Broadcasts is one of the UK's largest providers of outside broadcast production facilities and services. It operates a large fleet of TV production vehicles as well as sound, support and communications units and specialized camera systems.
The business supports events ranging from music festivals, drama productions and major state events to Wimbledon, the Olympics and World Cup football.
