Volicon joins Front Porch Digital for deep storage interface

Volicon has developed a software interface for the Observer that integrates with Front Porch Digital's DIVArchive system, allowing users to create virtually endless storage capability for content that has been generated by the Observer.

Volicon, a provider of monitoring, recording, archiving, and streaming digital video software and systems, has entered into a partnership for deep media storage with Front Porch Digital, a specialist in archive management for broadcasters.

Volicon has developed a software interface for the Observer that integrates with Front Porch Digital's DIVArchive system, allowing users to create virtually endless storage capability for content that has been generated by the Observer, up to 15 years and beyond. The combined solution means customers can order the optional interface to control Front Porch's DIVArchive from the Volicon Observer; allowing infinite media storage capacity.

As the content on the Observer ages beyond a certain threshold point, it will automatically be offloaded into deep storage via the DIVArchive interface. Users requiring access to this content will be able to bring it back into the system within minutes. The system is scalable, simply by adding more modules as needed.

The DIVArchive can combine online disk, near-line, automated tape libraries, DVD jukeboxes and off-line storage, and transparently store, archive and retrieve objects or files from an archive quickly. The architecture is modular and can scale from small disk-only to large-capacity systems.

Volicon's Observer desktop video, audio, and data monitoring system allows users to capture broadcast assets from multiple A/V sources, view those assets from a traditional Windows-based desktop via a Web interface, search and retrieve them, and export them to interested parties. The system is based on a proprietary streaming video engine and player that lets users store instantly accessible content for up to a year via hardware RAID-5 storage.
