NEWS 25 tailors updates for digital content channel

Television stations are looking to further tailor their news and information crawls to their audience. If viewers feel they have all of the information they need on one channel, they will have less reason to switch away from the station’s programming.

With that in mind, Evansville, IN-based Gilmore Broadcasting station NEWS 25 recently opted to implement Subchannel TV from CGS for its 24-hour digital content channel. Subchannel TV is a hardware/software solution that enables stations to display weather and news information on their secondary digital channels, or for cross-promotion on local cable. Stations can generate revenue while updating viewers with critical information such as seven-day forecasts, current conditions, school closings, news headlines, sports scores, stocks of local interest and Dow and Nasdaq results.

NEWS 25 has the option to focus primarily on weather or a more complex multi-ticker look to include school closings and news headlines. The squeezed video content is controlled by the station and can be used to air newscast repeats, weather radar, commercials or general programming.
