Verizon adds FiOS Guide, Drops Revenue

Verizon Telecom netted 167,000 new FiOS TV customers in 2007’s second quarter. The 515,000 quarter end total marked a year-over-year gain of 460,000 FiOS TV customers.

The company also added 125,000 satellite TV customers in partnership with DIRECTV during 2007’s second quarter, resulting in nearly 1.3 million Verizon video customers by June 30.

Verizon Telecom’s $4.2 billion in quarterly consumer market revenues fell 2.1 from second quarter 2006 revenues. But consumer revenues for legacy markets grew 3.4 percent to $3.8 billion in 2007’s second quarter, more than doubling the year-over-year growth rate reported for first quarter 2006. (“Legacy Verizon” excludes former MCI consumer markets, where Verizon’s strategic focus led to expected declines.) Average Revenue Per User in these markets increased to $57.47 in 2007’s Q2, up 10.9 percent from Q2 2006.

Last month Verizon introduced FiOS TV’s interactive media guide to help customers more quickly and easily find content from TV listings, video-on-demand catalogs and digital video recorders as well as personal music and photos from the home network. Future guides will add Internet radio, videos, podcasts and games to the FiOS TV multimedia platform.
