Samsung Flashes Big High-End Plasma Displays

Samsung introduced a line of large-screen plasma displays targeted at the professional and commercial marketplace. The 42-inch PPM42S2 and 50-inch PPM50H2 are designed to meet the display needs of professional video and audio, financial, multimedia presentation and digital signage markets.

The two monitors feature a slim 3.5-inch bezel and employ Samsung's 3D noise reduction and digital detail enhancement to enhance image quality and offer 160-degree viewing angles. Display options include variable aspect ratios with six modes, such as 16:9 and 4:3, and a 10x digital zoom and pan control. Samsung's digital algorithm minimizes color temperature variation regardless of brightness changes. They have user-friendly On Screen graphics menus and come with a universal remote control. To maintain quality while operating 24 hours a day, the plasma screens use auto pixel shift technology, which enables slow, unnoticeable shifting of still images to reduce image retention.

The displays can hook up to most video sources. They include composite video for terrestrial and cable connections, component video that offers 480i/p, 720p and 1080i viewing, S-Video for DVD and gaming applications and an RGB input for use with a PC. Another feature is the picture-in-picture function that allows for viewing two sources simultaneously.

The PPM42S2 weighs 70.5 lbs., with an 852 x 480 resolution, a 650 cd/m2 brightness level and a 700:1 contrast ratio. The PPM50H2 weighs 92.4 lbs. It has a 1366 x 768 resolution, a 600:1 contrast ratio and a brightness of 550 cd/m2.
