After a successful summer tour as co-headliners with The Goo Goo Dolls, rock band Counting Crows has hinted that a 2007 studio album may be in the works. While doing some sessions at New York’s Avatar Studios, they had occasion try the new Mojave Audio MA-200 condenser microphone.
In an attempt to capture the band’s distinctive sound, a variety of microphones were tried on co-founder Dave Bryson’s acoustic guitar. In A-B listening tests against well-known studio standards, the MA-200 got a unanimous and positive reaction from all of those involved. Bryson reports being particularly pleased with the microphone’s natural sound and clean, uncluttered high-end response.
The MA-200 is a tube microphone with a cardioid pattern. Its tailored frequency response is designed to excel at the capture of voice and acoustic instrument sources in the studio. Notable design features include the use of hand-selected 3-micron capsules, Jensen audio transformers and military-grade JAN 5840 vacuum tubes.
