Harris Debuts Smaller Platinum

Harris Corp. recently introduced the company's Platinum MX series of routing switchers in configurations of up to 128 x 128. The new line extends the Platinum technology into medium-scale applications.

"With the introduction of Platinum MX, we can now offer the innovative technology, high-end features and reliability of our large routing product to customers who don't require a larger router," said Tim Thorsteinson, president of the Harris Broadcast Communications Division. "The Platinum large router line has been a significant success story for Harris since its launch at IBC last year, and we are confident that the Platinum MX line will be equally well received by customers with mid-size routing requirements."

The Platinum MX router supports a mixture of signal types--audio and video, and analog or digital--within the same 9 RU frame. Differing signal types are internally converted from one format to another. The router features redundancy in the areas of power supplies, controllers and cross point and offers users flexibility in control systems. Modules are designed to be hot swappable and are front-loadable. The Platinum router technology is scalable in increments of eight inputs or outputs.
