Ciprico Introduces New Storage Platform

Ciprico has released DiMedia 2400, a new shared storage platform targeting broadcast and post-production non-linear editing environments.

The new storage technology uses Gigabit Ethernet connections running DV25 data rates and is being touted as an alternative to SANs which may still be preferred for applications needing very high performance for large numbers of clients running DV50 data rates.

The DiMedia2400 has been specifically tuned to provide the performance required in a multi-seat environment running video editing applications like INCITE editor and Adobe Premiere on multiple workstations equipped with Matrox hardware. Matrox is partnering with Ciprico to bring the platform to the post-production market.

Video Technics, a video server manufacturer using Matrox products, is using DiMedia with the new Apella VCS (Video Clip Server) to support both DVCPRO/DVCAM and multiple bitrate MPEG-2 clips. In addition, broadcast systems integrator Specialized Communications is certifying DiMedia with their on-air playout servers and television station automation systems, which in the past have used more expensive Fibre-Channel based technology.
