Broadcast Pix will showcase its new 3G Switcher Frame, a 3Gbps 1080p upgrade for its Slate live video production systems, during IBC2009 (Stand 7.A15). The new upgrade will provide simultaneous multi-definition SDI I/O for 1080p, 1080i, 720p and standard definition and create a 3G 1080p integrated production system, including switcher, multi-view, 100-hour clip store, graphics stores, Inscriber character generator and Fluent workflow software.
With twice the data rate of 1080i, 3Gbps compared to 1.5Gbps, the new 3G Switcher Frame upgrade helps future-proof Broadcast Pix systems with the emerging 1080p standard already found in TV sets, routers, monitors, computers, projectors, and many emerging cameras.
“Broadcast Pix systems create highly compelling live video at a fraction of the cost of conventional solutions, and use staff much more efficiently. Now we are adding superb 1080p picture quality,” said Broadcast Pix President Ken Swanton. “Our new 3G upgrade will enable Broadcast Pix customers to gracefully and economically upgrade to 1080p when they are ready.”
The new 3G upgrade is a separate frame, which simplifies wiring, increases the amount of I/O, and further enhances robustness. The frame accepts up to 20 SDI inputs, plus another 16 video and key inputs of clips and graphics, which are carried from the Broadcast Pix workstation to the frame over a single PCI Express bus cable.
The included Fluent workflow software exploits the Slate system’s unique video and file integration to improve functionality and performance. Unlike conventional switchers that take only video inputs, Slate systems can take file inputs as well from its integrated clip and graphic stores. With new Fluent Watch-Folders, content can be sent over a TCP/IP network from edit stations and graphic systems to these stores for immediate access, even during the middle of a production. New Fluent Macros can recall specific clip, animation and graphic files, as well as camera positions and switcher moves, which enables the creation and instant playout of complex combinations for compelling productions. The new Fluent CG Connect option provides the ability to connect an XML or Microsoft Access database to on-air graphics.
