Apple Shakes Up Special Effects Software

Shake 3, the newest version of Apple's compositing and visual effects software, is now available for general purchase.

The software contains a variety of new features for Mac OS X systems such as Shake Qmaster network render management software. Shake Qmaster uses the Rendezvous networking technology to distribute rendering jobs across Xserve 1 RU racks servers or desktop Power Mac G4s, which, according to the company, increases performance and efficiency.

Shake 3 also comes with unlimited network render licenses for OS X users and new features like film grain simulation and tracking on paint strokes for OS X, Linux and IRIX users. Compositors in post production also have access to new audio capabilities for synching audio and effects, such as automatically animating visual effects based on sound and view, and can slip or slide audio waveforms against animation curves.
