Signiant system improves reporting capability and eliminates costly transfer failures

BURLINGTON, MA, USA and AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS (IBC2008) – 12 September, 2008 —Signiant®, Inc., the leading developer of digital media distribution management solutions for the telco, media and entertainment industries, today announced that Scandinavian Broadcast Services (SBS), has selected Signiant‘s Digital Media Distribution Management Suite (DMDMS) as the backbone of its digital distribution strategy. The new system allows them to save hundreds of thousands of pounds a year.

SBS, a subsidiary of ProSeibenSat.1, required a digital distribution system to transfer files to and from its playout centre in the UK and its twelve local television stations in Scandinavia and Eastern Europe.

The Signiant system will provide cost savings of hundreds of thousands of pounds per year, by eliminating costly transfer failures and providing better reporting which leads to a vastly reduced number of manual “chasing” calls. The system will achieve return on investment in less than 6 months.

Thorsten Prohm, technical director of SBS UK, said, “Initially we simply wanted a digital transfer system to move files between two of our stations in Denmark and Sweden which would have saved us over £100,000 a year. However, the more we discovered about the Signiant system it was clear that we could save a significant amount of money and time by implementing the system across our entire distribution network and use its ability to automate workflows at each end of the transfer. In addition, the reliability of transfers and clear, detailed reporting system takes a lot of the stress out of our day-to-day operations and releases our staff to do more complex work which will have a knock-on effect on profitability.”

David Nortier, managing director, Signiant Europe, said, “In an increasingly competitive environment, broadcasters across the world must make their infrastructures work harder to produce a high quality service while remaining within budget. It is fantastic to see how Signiant’s cost-effective solution is making a clear and immediate difference to SBS – both to its operation and its bottom line.”

Signiant is exhibiting in the IPTV Zone, Hall 12, stand #IP201 at IBC2008, September 12-16 at the RAI Centre in Amsterdam. To schedule an appointment, please contact Tara Bartley at tbartley@signiant.com.
