Sony has been tapped by NBC Olympics, a NBC Sports Group division, to provide HD production technology for coverage of the 2016 Olympic Games that will take place in Rio de Janeiro.

Many athletes are likely to set new records during competition at this year’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, but NBC Olympics plans to set its own high mark in terms of streaming.

A different kind of Olympic record was broken during NBC’s coverage of the 2016 Rio Olympics in August, as a total of 3.3 billion streaming minutes were provided, including 2.71 billion live.
