WABC President to Head Up NYC Tower Reconstruction Group

The Metropolitan Television Alliance has elected Thomas Kane, president and GM of WABC 7, as chairman of the coalition of New York City area broadcast TV stations working to build a new TV tower to replace the one destroyed at the World Trade Center.

Kane follows William Baker, president of WNET 13, who was responsible for selecting the new broadcast facility site. In May 2003, the MTVA signed an MOU with World Trade Center developer Larry Silverstein to build a new TV tower as part of the new Freedom Tower to be constructed on the WTC site.

Kane has previously served as president and GM of Philadelphia-based WPVI and was named to his present position in 1996.
