Turner Sports Upgrades With Chyron For NASCAR Coverage

Turner Sports has upgraded 13 of its HyperX graphics and playout systems with HD and Lyric PRO advanced creation software from Chyron. The systems were used for the HD broadcasts of Turner’s 2007 NASCAR on TNT Summer Series.

“We chose Chyron because the company provides the best system to meet all of our requirements and we have a long and successful relationship. The HyperX maintains the fast editing functionality of a standard character generator with the added features of a full 3D rendering computer,” commented Tom Sahara, senior director of IT and Remote Services, Turner Sports.

Eight of the HyperX systems are located in TNT’s Network Operations Group and five at Turner Studios. The station is using the HyperX to create an assortment of lower thirds and full screens including trivia questions, game summaries, historical stats, scoreboards, leader boards and promos.

“We are delighted that TNT has upgraded the HyperX for this fast paced, adrenalin fuelled season of NASCAR,” said Chyron COO Kevin Prince. “This further highlights the system’s strengths in meeting challenging requirements in demanding, live sports environments.”

NASCAR on TNT started in June with the Pocono 500 in Pennsylvania and concluded last Sunday with the NASCAR Nextel Cup race from Chicago.
