TSN installs Harris HD news, editing system

Canadian sports network TSN has become one of the first networks to use the new Harris VelocityNX full-featured HD promotions craft editor.

Earlier this year, TSN’s flagship news and information program, SportsCentre, became the first newsroom in Canada to deliver a daily newscast in HD.

Supporting the editing of native SD and HD files directly from a Harris NEXIO shared storage environment, the VelocityNX editing workstations are part of a new studio installation built around the NEXIO XS server platform. The TSN HD installation is used for sports highlight editing in HD and includes three VelocityNX editing workstations, as well as the NEXIO XS NX3600HDX transmission server.

At TSN, the NX3600HDX transmission server records live sporting events continuously. As a feed is ingested, operators identify and sub-clip the highlights. Editors then use the VelocityNX editing workstations to access the incoming content almost immediately, creating highlight reels or trimming events into a format ready for broadcasting.
