Thomson outfits OB vans for World Cup

Swiss-based HBS (Host Broadcast Services), host broadcaster of the 2006 FIFA World Cup, selected Thomson to outfit as many as seven HDTV OB vans for its broadcast coverage of the this year's World Cup.

The trucks used Thomson’s Grass Valley products, including cameras, switchers, servers, routers, and modular products, to capture SD and HD broadcasts of soccer matches and coordinate their coverage.

These included Kalypso HD Video Production Center switchers, XtenDD HD switchers, LDK 6000 mk II HD cameras, LDK 23HS mk II super slo-mo cameras (or optionally the new Thomson HD super slo-mo cameras); Trinix digital video routing switchers and a Concerto Series multiformat routing switcher for handling SD and HD signals; new Profile 6G servers; and a variety of Kameleon and Gecko modular products.

The 2006 World Cup was held in a dozen cities throughout Germany, beginning June 9.
