Oren Debuts DTV Chips

Oren Semiconductor has developed three DTV demodulation chips to receive signals from local broadcast, cable and satellite systems. The ICs, based on Oren's "Cascade" design and DSP core, support any combination of 8-VSB, QAM and NTSC.

The OR51122 is an 8-VSB demodulator with a BTSC stereo decoder and NTSC video demodulation that will soon sustain ClearCast ghost cancellation, which reduces the effect of multipath signal echoes. The OR51132 adds QAM demodulation compliant with ITU-T j.83 Annex B. The OR51102 has QAM and NTSC processing, but does not require 8-VSB.

Sony has incorporated Oren's DSP technology in its TV tuner demodulation module. TeraLogic, recently acquired by Oak Technology, will use Sony's module for its set-top box and DTV development platforms.
