MyNetworkTV deploys TANDBERG Television solution for launch

MyNetworkTV, the new primetime TV network with 167 affiliates representing 96 percent of U.S. TV households, selected TANDBERG Television to provide both HD and SD MPEG-2 encoding solutions for its Sept. 5 launch.

The selection marks the sixth U.S. broadcast network currently using TANDBERG systems for satellite distribution of network programming to affiliates. Implementation of the new system lets MyNetworkTV, the only HD broadcast TV network in the United States, deploy a satellite distribution system that enables the highest quality of video for its launch.

At its network origination center in Los Angeles, MyNetworkTV will deploy TANDBERG’s E5710 and E5780 MPEG-2 SD and HD encoders, MX5620 multiplexers and Director v5 network management and receiver control system. Each affiliate, depending on its use of either the SD or HD feed (or both), will deploy a TT1260 MPEG-2 SD or TT1280 MPEG-2 HD professional receiver.

The TANDBERG Director system is designed to manage encoding systems at the point of program origination via TANDBERG nCompass Control and remotely control and manage up to 50,000 receivers deployed in the field. The newest Director release differs from earlier versions of the system in that no smart cards are required for receiver control. Security is embedded inside the receivers.
