Hong Kong's STAR Installs MassStore Management Systems

STAR, a subsidiary of News Corp., has installed Masstech Group's MassStore media lifecycle management systems in two locations in Hong Kong.

The primary MassStore system is located at STAR's headquarters in Hung Hom, Hong Kong. A secondary system was installed at STAR's disaster recovery site in Taipo, Hong Kong, providing a backup system. MassStore manages the control of multiple archives for both the main and secondary site.

The company said the STAR installation demonstrates the tight integration of its MassStore with the Titan automation system from Sundance Digital. Masstech and Sundance Digital have enabled STAR to fully automate the creation of content "Groups" for advanced archiving techniques.

"Effectively managing our content archive is an important task at STAR, as we broadcast over 50 television channels, serving more than 300 million viewers across Asia everyday. Masstech with their MassStore media lifecycle solution has offered a proven system that could handle the complexity of this task and fulfill our requirements in automation and control of the virtual libraries between our primary playout location and disaster recovery site," said Dr. Guo Xiao Yong, CTO at STAR.

STAR also selected Omneon video servers and STAR's in-house engineering department completed the integration.
