CNN powers videophones with Streambox
By TVTechnology published
CNN has selected the Streambox ACT-L3 Codec, for field deployment to CNN correspondents stationed all over the world. Streambox's Advanced Compression Technology Level-3 (ACT-L3) Codec is a low bitrate video compressor that allows reporters to send higher quality videos in real-time at 64 Kbps and 128 Kbps and transmit the live videos via satellite phones to the CNN Center in Atlanta.
Streambox will provide CNN with a site license for ACT-L3 Codec for Apple QuickTime and software to improve the QoS (quality of service) for live video delivery over satellite and wireless networks. The Codec includes error correction, packet shaping to control overflow and software to dynamically manage available bandwidth.
Streambox ACT-L3 Codec also is used in real-time low bitrate applications where interlaced broadcast quality (Full D1, 60 fields, 30 fps @ 1.5 Mbps) and DVD quality (Full D1, 60 fields, 30 fps @ 3 Mbps) video is required.
