Yamaha has announced that the end of the road is near for its first-of-a-kind PM1D digital mixing system. The company says that production of the 10-year-old product will end in December this year, explaining that key components are no longer available.
Yamaha says that the cessation of production was necessary to preserve parts and components necessary to support the maintenance and operation of existing PM1D consoles for some time into the future.
“Yamaha Corporation Japan has been hard at work advancing the next generation digital system platform,” said Larry Italia, vice president and general manager of Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems. “The PM1D was responsible for moving the commercial audio market forward, and as we begin this next era, our goal is to continue to provide our customers with the tools that meet changing market demands well into the 21st Century.”
The company stated that all existing orders for the PM1D will be honored and that limited quantities of the console will be available until the stock is depleted.
The PM1D was specifically designed for live sound reinforcement, with the first installation taking place at New York’s Carnegie Hall.
