Wind River Systems, Celunite to generate Linux-based mobile phone

Wind River Systems and Celunite have partnered to develop an advanced mobile phone platform integrating the Celunite mobile Linux platform, mobile applications suite and development tools with Wind River's Linux kernel and development tools.

Linux-based phones can offer capabilities similar to those of Windows Mobile-based phones, such as Internet and other rich media capabilities. According to Wind River Systems and Celunite, the platform will significantly reduce development costs and shorten delivery schedules for the entire mobile phone industry — chipset manufacturers, OEMs, integrators and operators.

Wind River and Celunite are both members of the LiMo Foundation, founded by Motorola, NEC, NTT DoCoMo, Panasonic Mobile Communications, Samsung Electronics and Vodafone, to develop the world's first globally competitive, Linux-based software platform for mobile devices.
