SAMMA Systems shows real-time MJPEG2000 migration system

At the IBC2007 convention in Amsterdam, SAMMA Systems, a provider of media migration (conversion) systems, demonstrated SAMMA Solo, a real-time, analog-to-digital content migration system. The semiautomated unit offers a cost-effective alternative to organizations needing to possess approximately 6000 hours of tapes or less.

SAMMA Solo was shown for the first time late last month at Society of American Archivists conference.

Finding effective methods to digitize analog assets, not only to preserve the content for the future but also provide greater access so assets can be monetized, is clearly an industry priority. The SAMMA Solo system encodes mathematically lossless MJPEG2000 files, as well as MPEG-2, H.264, Windows Media and Real Media files in real time. SAMMA Solo is suited for organizations planning to transfer approximately 6000 hours or less of analog tapes to the digital domain. The SAMMA Analysis Engine serves as the heart of the new system, delivering multiple auto correction features and extensive metadata reporting.

SAMMA Solo is a turnkey and compact digital migration solution that incorporates many of the same elements of the larger SAMMA robot, including automatic analytics, video enhancements and extensive metadata reporting. The system works with all analog formats and can output four different file types simultaneously. The MJPEG2000 format allows customers to preserve and future-proof their analog assets in the best way possible because it is mathematically lossless and thus does not introduce artifacts after compression.

SAMMA Solo is available for purchase or lease.
