Omneon offers automated channel playout, branding and audio processing in a low-cost box

Omneon has combined its extensive experience in video server playout with new automated graphics and advanced audio processing capabilities in a singe box called MediaDeck GX, which can be tightly linked with a station’s existing automation system to enable low-cost branding and master control functionality. With MediaDeck GX, broadcasters can affordably launch new services or expand their existing channel lineup.

MediaDeck GX is a new addition to the company's MediaDeck video server line, designed specifically for broadcasters that need a cost-effective, easy-to-deploy playout platform. The new unit brings together three key components of a typical channel chain: the MediaDeck transmission platform, a branding and master control module, and template-based graphics software. When deployed in an existing environment, MediaDeck GX will operate under the control of a number of automation systems.

The MediaDeck GX system plays out stored stills and animations while enabling mixing and playout of voice-overs, promos and stingers, with optional encoding and decoding of AC-3 and Dolby E audio.

The channel-playout system accepts data feeds from XML, VANC and serial sources to enable creation of data-driven graphics, including tickers, ratings slides and EAS alerts. By reading VBI/VANC metadata, MediaDeck GX also can update AFD information and apply templates based on the active picture or V-Chip data. Template creation, management and preview software simplifies usage. The MediaDeck GX can be configured and monitored via the Omneon SystemManager Web-based interface.
