Nokia debuts mobile TV-optimized mobile device at Mobile World Congress

Nokia at last week’s Mobile World Congress unveiled its Nokia N96 mobile device, which the company is billing as a “multimedia computer” specifically designed for mobile video and TV viewing.

The device is designed to enable users to access Internet video quickly, supporting such video formats as MPEG-4, Windows Media and Flash. A high-speed USB 2.0 connection and WLAN and HSDPA support is integrated for fast transfer and access to videos. In select markets, Nokia has included an integrated DVB-H receiver for live broadcast TV with an automatically upgrading program guide. The device can store up to 40 hours of video content, with the option for more storage using an optional microSD card.

Nokia expects to begin shipping the N96 in the third quarter of this year.
