Neumann TLM 49 goes hip-hop on ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’

Sennheiser is helping a struggling single-parent family to make ends meet with the donation of a Neumann TLM 49 large diaphragm vocal microphone, part of a project studio package designed and installed by Dale Pro Audio of New York. The studio is part of a new house built from the ground up in just seven days for ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition." Numerous other audio equipment manufacturers also contributed to the project.

Billy Joe Marrero, the eldest of five children, is an aspiring DJ, musician and songwriter who has dreamed of being able to help his ailing father achieve financial stability through his creative efforts. David Roman, an applications engineer for Dale Pro Audio, said, "We were looking for a reasonably priced, good looking, great sounding mic that would really make this kid happy. We had heard he was into hip-hop, so assuming he would be doing electronic beats or sampling, we figured there was going to be a lot of emphasis on the vocals. So, we had to give him a decent vocal chain, and the Neumann TLM 49 is a reasonably priced, but high-quality microphone."

The TLM 49 sports a retro design, with modern, transformerless circuitry, low self-noise and the ability to handle up to 114dB-SPL without distortion. The legendary M49 and M50 models from the 1950s inspire its sonic signature, and it comes complete with a professional elastic suspension system to ensure proper mechanical isolation.
