The 844/Xi uses Media 100's GenesisEngine media supercomputer to process four streams -- two video paired with two full motion alpha -- at once in real time with a combination of digital video effects, standard blend (transfer) modes, filters, color corrections and effects, convolutions, chroma, luma, channel keys and editing. It includes the same application software and Intelligent Layering Architecture as the original 844X; the 844X, however offers up to four video plus four full-motion alpha.

The 10-bit 844/Xi also features Visual Voicing, which lets users view and troubleshoot arbitrary layers. Priced at $24,995 and available in December 2002, the product will ship with the 844/X version 1.5 Interoperability Release.
