IPTV takes center stage

IBC2006 will offer a full day devoted to IPTV, the technology to make it happen and the impact of the new, interactive distribution technology on the television industry.

“IPTV – The Future Has Arrived” will be the theme at IBC Sunday, Sept. 10. Sessions will include:

  • Producing content for multiple distribution channels (SDTV, HDTV, podcsting, broadband and mobile). Content producers must keep the unique demands of their distribution medium in mind as they work. This session will look at the issues they face and offer examples of the best approaches to acquiring and editing material for multiple distribution avenues. Chuck Phelan of National TeleConsultants in the United States will chair the session.
  • IPTV - the future has arrived. This session will focus on the various aspects of IPTV, look at its current status and future direction and examine the possibilities of interactive and targeted services implementation. UK media and telecommunications advisor Andrew Burke will chair the session.
  • What caught my eye: Quality – who cares and who’ll win? The accountants or the engineers? Hosted by UK consultant David Allen.
  • Content protection. With so many new distribution avenues on the horizon, what type of content protection is appropriate for each? How much content protection is too much? The session will provide insight. Hans Hoffman of the European Broadcasting Union in Switzerland will chair the session.
  • Content delivery – New platforms are born. The focus of this session will be new delivery platforms, including triple-play (voice, video and broadband), digital terrestrial TV and peer-to-peer live streaming content over the Internet. Garard Faria of TeamCast in France will chair the session.
