Infineon taps On2’s Hantro video accelerators for mobile chipsets

The companies have signed a licensing agreement for integrating Hantro codecs into baseband chipsets for mobile handsets.
Infineon Technologies has licensed On2 Technologies’ Hantro video accelerators, which enable HD video record and playback, for baseband chipsets targeted at high-volume mobile handsets.

Infineon Technologies has inked a multiple-use license agreement with On2 Technologies, integrating the latter’s latest Hantro video accelerators into several baseband chipsets targeted for high-volume mobile handsets.

The encoder and decoder RTL designs of the Hantro codec solution support standard and proprietary video formats in resolutions from QCIF up to 720p HD. Using the designs will allow Infineon to offload the complex calculations needed for video compression and decompression from the chip’s processor core, making full-motion video record and playback possible without having a high CPU load for video processing.
